(or "Must-Read" Books, whichever your brain prefers!)
An important part of your treatment plan is knowing how your brain works. Here are my top 5 books/audiobooks for women with ADHD, because, as GI Joe says, "knowing is half the battle."
A Radical Guide for Women with ADHD by Sari Solden & Michelle Frank
Divergent Mind by Jenara Nerenberg
Your Brain's Not Broken by Dr. Tamara Rosier
Journeys Through ADDulthood by Sari Solden
ADHD 2.0 by Ned Hallowell & John Ratey
You've probably heard of the 7 Stages of Grief. Well, after my own experience with an adult diagnosis (and discussing it with so many women on the podcast), I've noticed there are commonalities with an adult ADHD diagnosis in women, too (whether it's an official diagnosis or a self-diagnosis). And, spoiler alert, one of them IS grief itself.
I've listed here the basic concepts of the stages I went through, and your mileage may vary. These stages aren't necessarily linear, and not necessarily a progression, either - you may notice yourself in more than one stage at any given moment, and keep coming back in and out of them (picture a game of Chutes and Ladders, but it's your brain). That's totally normal!
(Disclaimer: This list is anecdotal and not based on empirical research.)
At this exact moment, which stage (or stages) do you identify with? Which of the statements matches your feelings most closely?
